Alfred Hitchcock's "The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog" took my breath away not with thrills and spills of the plot or bizarre shots, but music. The composer, Ashley Irwin, caught every nuance of the emotions and rendered them with care and beauty. Mood transitions were precise and seamless. The exquisite timing in editing set me wondering how Ashley achieved such finish a century ago -- the movie was made in 1927. The Wonder led to a greater wonder: Ashley is a contemporary musician and his piece was a tribute to Alfred on his 100th birth anniversary. A befitting tribute, indeed! It is as great as filling colours in a black-and-white movie. It not only saves the old from falling into oblivion, but is a hallmark of its continuing relevance. Medium of art may fade but art doesn't. A true piece of art stands the test of time.
